About Me

K–12 Licensed Teacher and Reading Tutor in Minnesota

Hi, I'm Jenna Murallas, a K–12 licensed teacher, private reading tutor, and the educator behind Mariposa Reading in Minnesota. I’m originally from Colombia, and that background inspired the name Mariposa.

I offer personalized K–8 reading and writing support, along with ESL (English as a Second Language) lessons for children and adults, available both online and in person. For more than a decade, I’ve had the joy of helping students become confident, motivated, and joyful readers who feel successful in school and in everyday life.

I earned my degree in Education from Augsburg University and completed advanced coursework in Reading at Minnesota State University. I also hold a Minnesota teaching license and have specialized training in ESL (English as a Second Language) education. This blend of training and classroom experience helps me create thoughtful, targeted literacy instruction and offer caring, effective one-on-one and small-group tutoring that nurtures strong reading and writing skills.

Outside of teaching, I love to travel, cook, read, write essays, spend time outdoors in the warm sunshine, play with my dogs, and enjoy quality time with my two children, as well as with family and friends.

Parent Review

Amazing tutor and reading support! Ms. Jenna worked as my daughter's reading tutor during Kindergarten and 1st grade. She was always patient, encouraging, and caring with my very shy daughter. My daughter looked forward to every tutoring session with Ms. Jenna, and it was clear that she felt comfortable, confident, and truly enjoyed her reading lessons.

My Beliefs

Every child deserves to feel seen, heard, and capable as a reader. Through personalized reading instruction, I honor each learner's interests, culture, and strengths so reading feels meaningful.

Some children need a reading tutor to build decoding, fluency, comprehension, or writing skills. Others benefit from gentle ESL reading support to grow their English reading and communication. I meet students where they are, listen to what feels hard, and move at a pace that feels safe and encouraging.

As a teacher and reading tutor, I believe learning happens best in a warm, trusting relationship. My goal is to create an inviting space where every learner feels supported, confident, and excited to read, leaving each session with stronger skills and a deeper sense of curiosity and joy.
