THE SOLUTION
The Mariposa reading Program is a phonics-based program which builds reading and spelling skills from “the ground up”. After laying down a strong foundation of the letter-sound relationships which exist in English (the speech sound code), the program then systematically and progressively builds upon these relationships to help students develop reading and spelling (writing) competencies.
The students first learn to associate consonant letters and vowel letters with their speech sounds. They then develop the segmenting and blending skills necessary to read and spell at the single syllable level and progressively move to longer multi-syllabic words, sentences, paragraphs, and short stories.
Students also learn a number of single-syllable reading/spelling rules which are introduced at appropriate points in the program.
