He or she:
does not like to read, especially out loud or in front of others
(but may still like to be read to).
adds, omits, substitutes, and/or reverses letters in words.
relies on memory and guessing to read and spell.
may get 100% on spelling tests but not be able to spell the same
words correctly in sentences.
does not recognize a word in a reading passage though that word may
be repeated several times.
uses simpler words when writing than when speaking.
feels “stupid” and demonstrates other self-esteem problems because
of weak reading and spelling skills.
